ABOUT AFRICAN QUINTESSENCE
African Quintessence is a full service gallery that offers high quality traditional African art. We
serve casual collectors and serious connoisseurs with equal enthusiasm. All our pieces are very carefully selected by experienced,
professional experts. We strive not so much to offer mere relics or ritual implements, just because they are aged, but art forms originally
created as much for function as beauty.
When necessary, we employ the services of competent laboratories for radio carbon and
/or thermoluminescence dating as well as metallurgist for materials characterization and particles identification analysis.
Our
Commitment
Our commitment to deal in only the best has narrowed our focus to mostly Benin antiquities, which we firmly believe are
the "blue chips" or the closest to elite brands of African art.
In keeping with the spirit of the belief that masterpieces in African
art are not just random anomalies, we made concerted efforts over the years to research, identify, and acquire Yoruba masterpieces
from direct sources. Starting from Ife, the birth land of the Yoruba peoples, our traverse through the heart of Yourbaland
to research and pay homage to identified Yoruba master carvers from Olowe of Ise, (Ekiti), Dada Arowogun (a.k.a.,
Areogun) and George Bamidele Arowogun, (Areogun's son) of Osi Ilorin, Bamgboye of Odo Owa (Kwara State), to the recently deceased
Lamidi Olonade Fakeye, have yielded the rare gems we proudly bring to you.
We also offer distinctive pieces of art from all parts of
Africa from time to time.
